Arrests Drive Reduction in Construction Crime

Our continued efforts to combat building site crime are delivering significant results. With a focus on targeting offenders and strategic arrests, we’ve seen a marked reduction in onsite crime, benefiting PACT members and the broader construction industry.

Since July 2024, over 50 charges have been laid against individuals responsible for construction-related crimes, with 31 offences linked directly to PACT members’ sites.

Standout cases include:

Baldivis Theft: A GPS-tracked stolen hot water unit was traced to multiple locations. Mandurah detectives' extensive investigation resulted in 20 charges of stealing and burglary from building sites.

Forensic Breakthroughs: Evidence collected from reported burglaries has led to the identification and charging of three offenders involved in separate incidents.

Treeby Recovery: A GPS-tracked stolen hot water unit led detectives to a plumber’s address in Anketell. The plumber revealed he purchased the unit via Facebook Marketplace. This case involved a “steal-to-order” scheme, where offenders negotiated the sale and then stole the unit early the next morning before delivering the stolen goods to the buyer. Further investigations by Mandurah detectives’ led to the arrest of two males from Kelmscott.

Northern Suburbs Civil Construction Sites: Brazen offenders, using angle grinders to cut locks from offices and storage containers, were captured by onsite CCTV. Joondalup detectives' thorough inquiries led to the arrest of three males for these and other burglary offences in the area.

Dawesville Theft: Mandurah Police, patrolling new build areas, located two males loading 6 metre length of roofing timber onto their vehicle, inquiries at the scene resulted in a charge of stealing 62 lengths of timber which was recovered fully recovered.

These outcomes underscore the power of accurate crime reporting and the strong partnerships between PACT, WA Police, and our members

Fantastic outcomes and a reminder of the importance of reporting crime within the building industry. Let’s hope the court provides an appropriate punishment.
